Staying on Track with Your Goals! What is Getting in Your Way?

Goals, desires, wishes, dreams, visions—we all have aspirations for change, accomplishment, purpose, and a sense of drive. But at times, we struggle to stay on track or decide which direction to take. We face indecision, sometimes out of fear of making the wrong choice, or because we’re holding our decisions up to the lens of our values, wondering which path best reflects the life we want to live.
Regardless of how you're feeling, I’ve found it always helps to pause and discern my core values. When my actions or decisions aren’t aligned with those values, that’s when I feel confused, stuck, or stalled. That’s when I know it’s time to take another look—pray about the decision, lean on the truths of Scripture, talk to a trusted friend, and reason things out. Then I wait for that calm to settle in—the kind that helps me take a step forward in the direction that feels best, at least with the information I have at hand.
Calm doesn’t mean I’m not still a little afraid. It simply means I know what direction I want to take, and my mind isn’t spinning in a vicious circle trying to figure it all out. The path becomes clearer—or at the very least, the next right step does. And I’ve accepted that even if I make a mistake, I’ll learn something along the way. I can always pivot and course correct as I go.
Part of living is accepting that we cannot predict or control the future. We can plan, but then we must let the results unfold and respond accordingly. We don’t need to have it all together before moving forward with a goal, dream, or aspiration. We simply need to take small steps. Those steps get us moving in the right direction, and eventually, momentum builds. Outcomes begin to happen, and we respond to them.
There’s nothing worse than thinking ourselves into a corner where we can’t see a way out. And there’s nothing more limiting than being too proud to admit we might need help—help to open our minds to new ideas and solutions. Pride can hold us back from so much.
So today, my wish for you is this: Let go of perfection. Let go of fear. Let go of pride. Release whatever may be holding you back, and take one small step forward toward the life you want to live. Mistakes are part of the process—and there’s just as much chance you’ll succeed as not.
With grace and gratitude,
Cindy
