Breaking Free from Deeply Rooted Beliefs About Love

This morning, I reflected on a time when decision-making felt especially difficult—not so much for material purchases, but for the big, life-altering choices. Relationships—entering them, staying in them, leaving them. Job changes. Life shifts.

I’ve always trusted my gut instinct—what I call Holy Spirit nudges—when making decisions for others or choosing what’s best in practical matters. But when it came to decisions for my own well-being, that trust wavered.

For some reason, I believed the harder road was the one I should take. Maybe because, deep down, my upbringing taught me that love was something you endured—choosing pain and suffering over peace, love, joy, and contentment. But I’ve since learned that love, when it’s right, doesn’t require suffering. Yes, it calls for some sacrifice and care for another, but not at the expense of my own well-being. Peace isn’t a privilege—it’s something we are meant to embrace. And making choices in alignment with our well-being is not selfish; it is essential.

I’m learning that making decisions based on peace, love, and joy doesn’t mean avoiding challenges—it means choosing paths that honor my well-being. It means trusting those Holy Spirit nudges for myself, just as I would for others.

Healing is a process, and unlearning old beliefs about love and sacrifice takes time. But every step forward is a step toward a life that is full, not just endured. And that is worth choosing—every time. 💙

Grace to You,

Cindy
