Life is full of thinking, list-making, calculating, wishing, hoping, dreaming, and putting our best plans into action. But what happens when a curveball comes, and those plans are thrown off course, delayed, or won't take place at all? That's where the real work begins. We have choices at this point. We can let the setback hold us captive, or we can choose to pivot, open our minds, accept our new reality, and then take the next right steps to move forward. Some people can turn things around quickly and move ahead, others move at a slower pace, and some become stuck. So stuck, it feels imprisoning as fear overtakes our minds and hearts.


Are you feeling stuck and having trouble accepting that your life isn't turning out the way you envisioned? When we are stuck, it's typically because we lack acceptance. Acceptance does not mean we need to like our situation; it means we accept our situation as reality. Once acceptance is reached, our minds can then 'open up' to explore what's next, envision other solutions, and steer us out of our black-and-white thinking! At the point of acceptance, creativity can explode, and we can begin to move ahead and figure out the next best steps. The most important thing is to recognize that we may need help to get to the acceptance phase.


If you are feeling stuck, you are not alone. The one thing that holds us back most when we are stuck is our PRIDE. Rather than imprisoning yourself in your mind, lay down your PRIDE and reach out for help. You will not regret it. You are only one phone call, text, snap, or personal face-to-face ask away from figuring out what is next. We are not meant to do this life alone! It takes a village, a community or one set of grace-filled listening ears to surround us with love.


Here is a helpful exercise. Ask yourself the questions below, journal your answers, and discuss them with someone. Uncovering our fears and discussing them with someone is one of the best ways we can nudge ourselves to take a tiny step forward!


  1. What is holding me back?

  2. What am I afraid will happen?

  3. What am I afraid won't happen?

  4. What is one small thing I can do today to move forward?


These questions challenge our stuck and sometimes spinning minds to jump off our own merry-go-round. Grace be with you on your journey!
