Finding Your Identity in Whose You Are, Not What You Do

Recently, I’ve been part of conversations and gatherings about where we find our identity. It’s something I’ve also shared in public speaking: the transformative power of finding your identity not in what you do—whether it’s work, relationships, or achievements—but in something unshakable and eternal.

Life isn’t without struggle. Unfortunately, many of us aren’t equipped early on with the tools to cope with its challenges, emotions, and complexities. But there’s profound hope: when we anchor ourselves in something far greater than ourselves, we discover the resilience to endure life’s storms and the joy to celebrate its victories.

When we make our work, relationships, or possessions the core of our identity, we put ourselves in a vulnerable position. Jobs can be lost despite our best efforts. Relationships, no matter how much love and care we invest, can falter because of human imperfection. These losses can feel devastating.

This is why I’ve learned to place my trust in something steadfast—someone who will never leave, fail, or forsake me. My foundation, my Rock, is God. Over the course of my life, I’ve come to not only believe in Him but fully trust and surrender my life to Him.

Being a child of God gives me worth beyond measure—something no human can take away. Spending time daily with Him and His Word has given me peace that surpasses all understanding, even amidst chaos or uncertainty. My purpose is clear: to walk in His light, trust His guidance, and respond with love to His daily call to love others well.

If you’ve ever felt adrift, longing for peace and purpose, I invite you to explore the light of our Creator. Surrendering self-will for His plan is life-changing—it brings a freedom and hope that can’t be matched. You are deeply loved, and in Him, you are always worthy.

Grace to you,

Cindy
